What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that help plump up your skin to improve appearance and diminish lines and wrinkles. Dr. Hassan performs the minimally invasive cosmetic procedure to fill your cheeks or lips.

As you age, you lose the fat under the skin in your face, which leads to accentuated lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers act as a fat replacement to help re-plump the skin and create a smoother, fuller appearance.

For the lips, fillers enhance their appearance and make them fuller and more youthful. Dermal fillers are also used to:

Fill in shallow contours and recessed scars
Contour facial deformities
Reduce the appearance of lower eyelid shadows

What can I expect during dermal filler treatment?

Depending on the areas you’re having filled, the procedure takes an hour or less. To prepare, Dr. Hassan first maps out the injection sites on your face. He then cleans your skin and applies a local anesthetic to reduce pain.

Once your skin is ready, he injects the filler and massages the area. He then reviews the area and injects more filler as needed. As a doctor with an eye for beauty, you won't leave the office until you’re both satisfied with the outcome.

After the procedure, you may experience some swelling and minor pain, but the discomfort only lasts a day or two. You should be able to resume your usual activities immediately following treatment.

Dermal injections may be able to keep your cheeks and lips plump for up to a year.

What types of dermal fillers are available?

Dr. Hassan uses the Juvederm® brand of dermal fillers. To fill your cheeks and lips, he prefers Juvederm Volbella® XC, which contains lidocaine to help minimize discomfort following injections.

What is the difference between fillers?

Fillers are cosmetic injections that help reduce the signs of aging and also have the bonus of being able to enhance features, such as your lips.
