What is skin rejuvenation?

Skin rejuvenation is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that uses microneedling to inject platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into your skin for healing and rejuvenation. The procedure has a dramatic effect on your skin and improves both tone and appearance.

The revolutionary treatment works its magic in two ways.

  • Microneedling: Gently damages the surface of your skin and stimulates your body’s natural repair system, and increases the production of collagen -- a protein that makes your skin soft, yet resilient.
  • PRP: A concentrated source of proteins and growth factors that when placed on your skin stimulate the production of new cells to achieve younger-looking skin.

Dr. Hassan uses a small amount of your blood to create the PRP.

What can I expect when getting a skin rejuvenation?

To prepare for the procedure, Dr. Hassan first takes a small amount of blood -- about two teaspoons -- from your arm and spins it in a centrifuge to isolate the growth factors to create the PRP.

He then uses his special microneedling pen to make small punctures in your skin. Once your skin is ready, he paints the PRP over the puncture wounds and allows your skin to absorb the growth factors and proteins.

Due to cell turnover, it may take up to three months for you to see the full effects of skin rejuvenation, but the effects may last for a year. Protecting your skin with sunscreen may increase treatment longevity.

Does the skin rejuvenation hurt?

Due to the use of needles, you may feel some discomfort during the blood draw and microneedling.

However, the needles on the microneedling pen are thin and small, and most patients report very little pain during treatment. But, you may experience a sunburn-like feeling on your face afterward.

Any discomfort you might experience diminishes quickly.
